Civitan Logo

Although the logo of Civitan has changed a few times over the years, it has significant points that have remained constant.
The gold color represents purity of highly refined metal, indicative of those who would volunteer their time.
The blue is a regal color that, together with the gold, has become symbolic of many service club organizations, dating back to the early part of this century.
The "C" surrounding the globe represents Civitan service around the world.

Civitan Creed

I AM CIVITAN: as old as life, as young as the rainbow, as endless as time.

MY HANDS do the work of the world and reach out in service to others.

MY EARS hear the cry of children and the call throughout the world for peace, guidance, progress, and unity.

MY EYES search for others to join in the fellowship and service of Civitan.

MY MOUTH utters the call of daily duty and speaks prayers in every tongue.

MY MIND teaches me respect for law and the flag of my country.

MY HEART beats for every friend, bleeds for every injury to humanity and throbs with joy at every triumph of truth.

MY SOUL knows no fear but it's own unworthiness.

MY HOPE is for a better world through Civitan.

MY MOTTO: builders of good citizenship.

MY BELIEF: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

MY PLEDGE: to practice the golden rule and to build upon it, a better and nobler citizenship.

Fellowship, Knowledge, Service

The Three Basic Principles

Fellowship, Knowledge and Service.  These three things have, since the beginning of Civitan, been promoted as our three basic principles.

  • Fellowship amongst members and guests at all functions
  • Knowledge of one’s community, state, nation and world
  • Service to humanity

Following these three principles gives our members a well-rounded Civitan experience.

"BUILDERS OF GOOD CITIZENSHIP"

-Longtime club member Jim Gibson passed away on the morning of December 31, 2011.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Dianne and their children Debbie, Jimmy, and Linda.  Jim had held all of the offices in the club over the years, was honored as a fellow of the Civitan International Research Center for his extraordinary contributions in leadership and community service, and was a strong supporter of our many fund raising and service projects. He will be missed by everyone in the club. Visitation will be at Eastdale Baptist Church on Burbank from Noon to 2 pm followed by a memorial service. Donations to the church or to Adullam House in lieu of flowers.

Civitan is an all-volunteer, international service organization for people who want to realize their full potential.  We are everyday citizens who come together to make life better for our neighbors. While Civitan helps many charitable organizations our major service focus is on helping the developmentally disabled.

Through the generosity of our members and the good citizens of the community, we are able to support the following groups, agencies, and organizations:

  • Civitan International / Children's Hospital Birmingham
  • The Montgomery Children's Center
  • The Montgomery Association for Retarded Children
  • Child Protect
  • The Montgomery Therapeutic Recreation Centerr
  • Camp Civitan & Camp ASCCA
  • The Montgomery Boys & Girls Clubs
  • McInnis School
  • and Others.

Montgomery Civitan Club's 2011 Civitan of the Year

Mathew Orange was selected as the Montgomery Civitan Club Civitan of the Year for 2011 for the many hours of work that he put in on the Biscuit Baseball Parking project this year as well as his work on this years Max Moseley Golf Tournament not to mention all of the other hours he has put in on our other projects.  Mathew was not able to attend the awards banquet on September 29th where the award was announced but he was presented with his plaque by Charles Hollified, club Secretary, at the club meeting on October 14th.

John McCall takes the reigns as Governor of the Alabama-West Florida Civitan District!

Our own John McCall accepted the gavel as Governor of the Alabama-West Florida Civitan District at the annual conference in Atmore held this year on August 19th and 20th.   John's dedication to Civitan and to service to his community will stand him in good stead as he takes on the task of preparing to lead all of the Civitans of the district in 2011-12.  John's commendable service to the Montgomery Civitan Club and to those we serve was just the beginning of what he will be able to accomplish in this new position.  John has moved on to a new job as Chief of the Troy University Police Department but he remains a member of the Montgomery Civitan Club and will always be one of our own.

BISCUIT BASEBALL GAMES ARE OVER FOR THIS YEAR! THANKS TO ALL WHO CAME OUT TO ENJOY THE GAMES!!!

Get ready for next season.  Next Spring the Biscuits will be out on the diamond again and you'll be headed out to the ball park to enjoy the games.  When the time comes and you get to the park,  you'll see our members hard at work, taking up parking fees. You have other parking options but if you pull into one of the Montgomery Civitan Club's lots you'll not only know you have a great place to park, but you'll also become a huge help in making Montgomery a better community through the efforts of Montgomery Civitan. The parking fee is split between the City and the Civitan Club and all of our funds go directly into our Fund Raiser Account which is divided between local charitable agencies. So file that away until Spring and enjoy the Fall and Winter until then!
